| Schedule | Setting up an intranet can be a daunting
mission. Once you have made decisions on the structure of your intranet
and the hardware/software you will use, you may want to take one of the
following courses.
Managing a WWW ServerYou can take the Managing a Web Server Using Internet Information Server class for information on configuring and setting up a Web server on the Windows platform. You will learn to install, configure, and set up the various parts of the Internet Information Server. This course has the prerequisites of Managing a Network Using a Windows Server, Introduction to TCP/IP, and Introduction to HTML (or equivalent experience). We also offer Managing a Web Server Using Apache, which teaches you to install and configure an Apache Web Server on the Linux platform. Prerequisites for this course are Advanced Applications of HTML, and Introduction to UNIX or Managing a Network Using a Windows Server (or equivalent experience). Understanding TCP/IPIf your intranet is connected to the Internet or to
other intranets, you need to learn the standardized system used for
communicating and exchanging data among networked computers. This
collection of protocols is known as TCP/IP (Transmission Control
Protocol/Internet Protocol).
Using TCP/IP, a computer on one network can log in to another network
and exchange files or transmit data. TCP/IP makes the Internet possible by
providing a common "language" that all networks can understand.
We offer a series of courses on TCP/IP to teach you how data is
exchanged. Learn about IP addresses, utilities such as telnet, and
protocols used on the Internet. The introductory course has a prerequisite
of Managing a Network Using Windows Server or Introduction to UNIX (or equivalent experience).
