Introduction to Desktop Publishing Using QuarkXPress
(Prerequisite: Introduction to Windows or equivalent experience.) Learn the basics of QuarkXPress and develop the skills you need to design and produce camera-ready copy for simple publications. Type and import text, then select, edit, and format it. Practice drawing, resizing, coloring, and layering lines and shapes. You will learn to navigate through a document, fill shapes with text, link text boxes together, and use the find/change and spell check features. Work with text options, such as fonts, tabs, hanging indents, and bullets. Learn to layer, align, and group page elements. Additional topics include changing the default master page guides, setting up automatic page numbering, and understanding PostScript printing. [Table of Contents] Fee: $189 |

Intermediate Applications of QuarkXPress
(Prerequisite: Introduction to Desktop Publishing Using QuarkXPress or equivalent experience.) Build on the knowledge gained in the introductory QuarkXPress course to design more complex publications. Learn to import, crop, manipulate, and run text around graphics. Discover several methods for resizing graphics, including automatically making a graphic fit its picture box. Practice editing, deleting, and blending colors; placing text on a path; and converting text to paths. Learn to find and change text attributes and create tables. Additional topics include working with master pages, dividing a document into sections, saving a file as a template, and discussing printing options, such as thumbnails and tiling.
