Introduction to Perl Programming
(Prerequisite: Introduction to Programming Concepts or equivalent experience.) Learn why Perl is the programming language of choice for system and network administrators, Web developers, and database administrators. With Perl, you can create programs that automatically generate Web content, status reports, and computer-related system reports. In this course, you'll explore the basics of Perl, from an overview of its capabilities and comparison to other languages, to specifics on data types, flow control, regular expressions, and basic arrays. Learn how to write conditionals, Boolean expressions, and Input/Output (IO) redirection. Practice with Meta characters, pattern matching, substitution, and searching. Learn to write and access array elements, as well as open and read/write to files. You'll also find out the techniques that will help you debug your programs. [Table of Contents] Fee: $399 |

Intermediate Perl Programming
(Prerequisite: Introduction to Perl Programming or equivalent experience.) In the introductory course, you learned the basics of this popular, open-source language. Now go beyond the fundamentals and learn the skills that will move you towards more effective programming. Discover the design principles that will result in the most efficient Perl programs, and learn the debugging techniques to ensure accuracy. In this course, you'll manipulate multi-dimensional arrays and hashes, obtain file information and modify file permissions, and create well-defined subroutines. Additional topics include writing command-line arguments and accessing and defining environmental variables. This course will introduce you to Perl modules and how to use Perl for Web applications, including accessing Web data and CGI scripting. [Table of Contents] Fee: $399 |

Advanced Perl Programming
(Prerequisite: Intermediate Perl Programming and Introduction to SQL or equivalent experience.) Perl's simplified scripting makes it an ideal language for reporting and working with databases. In this advanced course, learn to use Perl to query, insert, update, and delete database records. You'll create custom scripting applications to access global databases and work with multiple remote databases for customized reports. This course demonstrates Perl coding techniques using Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and Oracle databases. Topics include using the Perl DBI and ODBC drivers and generating reports of SQL queries, modifications, and updates. Create a Web interface to access databases with Perl CGI.
